A well-traveled hurricane

On Sunday afternoon we experienced the effects of Hurricane Ike, all the way up here in Indianapolis. We had rain and terrifically strong winds - enought to knock our power out 4 separate times, the worst time being at the very end of the Vikings/Colts game on TV! We were scrambling around like mad trying to find the right batteries for a transistor radio! As of today there are still 15,000 homes without power here, and at least seven people lost their lives due to the storm. Nothing like the damage Ike delivered down in Texas, but as much of a taste of a hurricane that I would ever want!

More shared birthdays

Today my friend Shelbe (known as a great Preschool director and now a fellow coffee club member!) celebrates her birthday as does Steve's mother Mary Elizabeth (known for her exquisite knitting abilities and unmatched crossword and jigsaw puzzle skills!) ~ a very Happy Birthday to both of these wonderful ladies!

Thinking about the attacks on America seven years ago, and thanking the service men and women who are fighting for our country right now because of the horrid events of that day...

The Lady from Alaska

The whole world's a stage...Sarah Palin is commanding it right now, without a doubt. I watched some of her acceptance speech on TV last night and one can't help but think she is not your garden variety politician. Sort of a hybrid she is.

What's sort of interesting to me is that the Palin family is from Wasilla, Alaska - I’ve been to Wasilla, ate lunch in a restaurant there en route to Denali National Park (Mount McKinley). For whatever that’s worth!!! Also, on the subject of her kid's names being unusual - my Alaska cousins can make the same claim. There's "Ranger" and his sister "Gypsy" (married name is Gypsy Jolly!).

No drab, dull or dry election campaign this time. Too many "firsts" are at stake!

One of the best

I only read 4 or 5 comic strips each day - my all time favorite Peanuts being one of them - and in another, "For Better of Worse", Elizabeth and Anthony have finally married. I've been waiting for this to take place for at least 10 years, so you can see that I have alot of patience!! The sweetest part of their wedding day was when after the ceremony they went to visit her grandfather in the hospital, and having a "for better or for worse" conversation with his second wife who so faithfully is caring for him since he had a debilitating stroke. Lynn Johnston, the writer, really knows how to weave life's lessons and humor into her long running comic strip. I can't wait to read it each day...

Back in Business

Yesterday I picked up a replacement camera for my "new camera" that I got last January. The lens started to act up about a month ago, so it was sent to the repair facility and when I picked it up a few days ago guess what - it still didn't work right. So I took it back to the camera store, and after a couple of days they called to tell me they were replacing it with a new one! So let's hope I have better luck with this one as i do like it alot. Thanks to Matthew, I was able to borrow his camera while mine was gone - I take more pictures than a monkey's uncle!!

Shaken, not stirred

I was jolted out of a sound sleep around 5:30 am today by the now famous Illinois based 5.2 earth quake. The bed shook like a train was passing through the bedroom, the knick knacks on the shelves clicked and clacked and to top it off, I could hear the water in the toilet sloshing around for more than a few seconds after the bed stopped shaking!! It was a feeling not soon to be forgotten! Then, around 11:15 am we had a 4.3 aftershock that shook the computer screen, the desk and the chair I was sitting on. We owe all of this to the shifting of the rock 7.2 miles below the Earth’s surface along the Wabash fault line, an extension of the New Madrid fault that includes Indiana. Steve was driving to work and didn't feel a thing!

Gloria's Day

My life has been blessed with two friends named Gloria! One, "Glor", my Pine City buddy since first grade and the other, "Gloria" my Indy pal since the late 80's. Both can be defined as "friends" in the very truest sense of that word. Today is Gloria's own day, her birthday, and I wish her many more happy returns of this day!! Plans are in the making for a celebration outing on Friday!

My new friend

Over the past three days, I have made a new friend. A new male friend that is. He spent all day with me on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday. He is my floor man - here to lay new flooring in the bathrooms. I don't know what it is about me, but this always happens with guys who come to do work here at the house. I have lots of friends like this.

By the time he left today, he had looked at all the photos on my refridgerator and front entry walls and commented on each one. He knew about my grandgirls, and thinks I must be a real good grandma. He knows the occupations of everyone in my family. After he found out I grew up in Minnesota he asked me if it really was like the movie "Grumpy Old Men" (yes) and can you really pull fish out of a frozen lake (yes) and how much smaller than Indianapolis is Minneapolis (it's bigger not smaller) and is St. Paul a separate city (yes). When I told him Mpls was separated from St. Paul by the Mississippi River, he was astonished to find out the Mississippi could be found that far north (it originates in northern Minnesota).

And on and on and on the conversation went with my new friend. The best piece of info I got from him (other than a blow by blow account of the trials and tribulations of building a house) was that this has been a slow year in the bathroom flooring business. He will only make around $100,000 with a good year bringing him $250,000. Hmmm - he seems honest enough, but those figures blow my mind.

I will miss him....NOT

Snow falling on leaf bags

We have had our first snows of the season this week - on Wednesday and Friday we woke up to several inches of gently fallen flakes, the kind that rests on every branch and object on the ground. Photo ops abounded. As I drove along the streets of our neighborhood early Friday morning, I saw alot of "Leaf it at the Curb" bags waiting for city pickup and covered with a lovely layer of snow. Another reminder of how we went from summer to fall to winter in a very few weeks!

Exercise

After a prolonged absence due to travel, houseguests, and a myriad of other goings on etc, I have finally gone back to Curves this morning. It felt good to get back on the exercise equipment!

I have found myself lately flying hither thither and yon and have let all manner of things I like to do or am responsible for at home go undone. So it's time to get back to the basics here in light of the fact that up next will be all of the holiday hoopla!

For my friend Candy, at her death

Assurance

It sometimes happens that two friends will meet,
And with a smile and touch of hands again
Go on their way along the noisy street.
Each is so sure of all the friendship sweet,
The loving silence gives no thought of pain.
And so I think those friends whom we call dead
Are with us. It may be some quiet hour,
Or time of busy work for hand and head,
Their love fills all the heart that missed them so.
They bring a sweet assurance of the life
Serene above the worry that we know,
And we are braver for the comfort brought.
Why should we grieve because they do not speak
Our words that lie so far below their thought?

Checking in

Seems like I have been either having company or traveling for the past month. I flew home Monday night. The reunion banquet for the USS Minneapolis survivors of WWII was very touching - many of the sailors in their late 80’s and several 90 +. I felt fortunate to be a part of that group for the evening. The Minnesota History Center had been interviewing and filming all week in preparation for a film and exhibit to be opened in the spring - a greatest generation type thing. Steve flew home that Sunday and I went on down to New Ulm to be with my folks then all last week. Spent tons of time scanning old photograph albums beginning with my parents marriage in 1948 and stopped at mid-1971 for now. Made copies of the cd’s for my sisters and brother who came to spent Friday at home. Just the original 6 of us - my folks were in their glories. Also took a quick run back up to the cities with my older sister to visit Caitlin and Mike! So, it was a full week and now I am back in Indpls. Last night Matthew and Davie came up from Atlanta and will paint the inside of the house they are renting before the movers arrive next Monday. Today Delaney and Ella came over to that house and boy were they surprised. Lots of jumping up and down and generally being excited beyond belief!

I met my Greenbriar student at an Oasis breakfast there on the Friday we were flying up to Minnesota - nice 2nd grade boy who says he likes to read chapter books. I was all set to have a student who was not yet reading, so I will need to rethink my plans a bit. I will start working with him next Tuesday.

I have been conscripted to help paint, so I guess the yard work will have to wait…can’t believe how green most of the trees still are anyway.

Maundy Thursday drama

I thoroughly enjoyed the drama at church tonight which Gloria wrote and directed - "I Spoke With the Son of Man". Several women of the New Testament such as Mary and Martha, Herodias, Simon Peter's mother-in-law, and Mary the Mother of Jesus shared stories of their thoughts and experiences with Jesus. The writing, acting, costumes, music and staging was first class. Sharon, Kim and I wanted to clap at the end, but being a sort of somber service that didn't happen.

There is no end to your creativity, dear friend!

Winter Wrap-up

February flew by and here it is March, and almost spring. Noticed more yellow on several goldfinches this morning, and at church on Sunday I heard the red-winged blackbirds singing so nature is ready to move on also. Enjoyed my week in Minnesota last month and now I'm ready to head to the beach on Sunday!

Thanks to my decorating consultant (gloree) for the good outcome of re-papering and painting the front hallway and the kitchen! I ended up doing the work and I am happy to see how nice it looks. The "Potter's Bench" print is perfect on the kitchen wall, although it fills me with a longing to go visit England's Lake District once again!

Paint

Today the painter was here to work on ceilings and basement stairwell. It is the first time we have had a pro do painting and I was duly inpressed. He dispatched 3 ceiling cracks in no time flat, and didn't even need to use masking tape along wood workwork when painting the basement entry walls. How does he do that?! When I paint it takes me almost as much time to prep as to paint. I think we will splurge and have him paint the kitchen walls when he is done with the ceilings!

December

This is such a plump month. So many birthdays, parties, outings, programs, shopping, wrapping, writing, mailing...and all of it fun, really. And then of course there's the fudge and snack mix - the once a year wonders. One 3 pound pan of the brown stuff has met it's match already and more ingredients are in the cupboard waiting.

I had a very nice birthday, thanks to family and friends! Delaney and I (and Steve) celebrated with an evening at Clowes Hall for the Butler Ballet's Nutcracker. Magical! Yesterday Gloria treated me to a wonderful dessert/presentation at the Indiana Historical Society - a charming lady shared her collection of handblown Christmas ornaments and the legends behind each. I now know why we have a spider and a pig ornament!

Have also enjoyed sharing our Snow Village and other Christmas decorating with Conversation Club here last week, and yesterday my devotions group. At Poetry Plus on Tuesday night, we all shared something for Christmas - a poem, a story, a tradition, a song - how relaxing! Now I have the CD player loaded up with Christmas music. Mahalia, Barbra, Elvis, Bing, Peanuts gang, Handel, etc. - and oh yes, Caitlin, your St. Thomas choir!

Next thing on the list is my annual reading of Dicken's Christmas Carol. Just the thing to cure any holiday foot dragging or humbugging.

Finally Fall

Did the leaves fall off of their own accord or did the trees finally just push them off?? Whatever the case may be, two weeks ago the overall look of them was more green, and as of today most every tree is bare. One thing that I sort of miss at this time of year is the smell of burning leaves. Did get a whiff last week going north on Westfield Blvd. - two higgley senior citizens were raking leaves like crazy into a huge bonfire on their gravel driveway!

Katrina

The past two evenings I watched Spike Lee's four part "Requiem" on the devastation and continuing grief caused by Hurricane Katrina nearly one year ago. Through first person accounts and interviews, interspersed with news footage and still photographs he weaves an account of the before, during and after effects of the hurricane in New Orleans. It left me shaking my head in disbelief at the overall emergency response at the time, and the sad state of affairs that still exists in the city and along the Gulf coast. I would highly recommend watching this program - Spike Lee has done for Hurricane Katrina what Ken Burns did for the Civil War, The West and Baseball. Through powerful words, images and music we learn that our modern, jet setting and convenient lives hang by the most fragile threads dictated by forces way beyond our own control.

In Her Element

Must comment on the wonderful, enthusiastic and all-around nice job Gloria is doing this week at Vacation Bible School (Fiesta!). For the 5th year in a row she has managed to oversee a most creative and fun week at church for over 70 children. When I watched her this morning conducting the closing service I could only think "What a brilliant lady!"

She deserves alot of thanks for a job well done!

Scram Spam

While I have not posted an entry for a month, I have indeed been busy with this weblog. That is to say, I have been busy deleting spam comments by the dozens. Nearly every day there are 10 or more (once there were about 40) spam comments awaiting an ok which of course I do not give them. Nice try spampersons, but such mischief will not succeed on Morninglorees.

Danger on the Monon

Honestly, you'd think that driving and cellphone yakking was bad enough...now one has to deal with the same thing on the Monon Trail. I was driving across it at 91st Street when a walking talker steamed across the road without the slightest glance to look for oncoming cars. Lucky for him that I sensed he was not paying attention because I braked to a halt and allowed him to continue on his merry way. The cars do have the right-of-way, and trail users are to stop and wait until the road is clear. Even so, I have seen cars screech to a halt resulting in rear enders on 91st and 96th streets when walkers or bikers don't wait to cross. Thankfully, so far I don't think any trail users have been hurt.

North Central is not a horse

I was talking Mrs. Riffle across the backyard bushes on Monday evening when Steve came out of the house yelling "North Central won the Triple Crown!!" Having just learned from Gloria's mother Helen that the Kentucky Derby was held over the weekend, I naturally assumed that he was talking about a horse and the races and such. What an odd name for a horse I thought, and said so. Turns out it isn't a horse after all, just the boy's high school alma mater. On Saturday they made ISSMA history by being the first high school to win all three state crowns in Wind Ensemble, Orchestra and Concert Choir in the same year. Still have a soft spot for those groups that we were once such a part of...and maybe "North Central" would be a pretty lucky name for a Derby horse after all!

No place like home

Humble though it may be, the homeplace is nonetheless deserving of the recent attention it has received! The new year's list includes a new toilet (yea!), new water heater, new paint and decor in "the girl's" bedroom, and our bedroom (also new carpet), 3 new storm doors, some concrete botox out front, and a new front porch light. While this in no way matches the pace and magnitude of projects at morningloria's, I am nonetheless pleased:):) Speaking of which, I can't wait to see her new kitchen on Thursday afternoon!

Grand Good Wishes

Happy Birthday to you Gloria!

“The Road goes ever on and on down from the door where it began. Now far ahead the Road has gone, and I must follow, if I can, pursuing it with eager feet, until it joins some larger way where many paths and errands meet. And whither then? I cannot say.”

No, no, no it just can't be!

I am wiping that smug look off my face. Yes, I do know about the gobs of snow forecast for us here tomorrow. Apparently Minnesotans have sent it off in a huff and in utter confusion, Winter has looked south for it's next victim. Yesterday we were outside starting some work in the yard and garden beds, tomorrow it's back to the snow shovel. Oh well, maybe the school kids will have a snow day at least!

Soft on Winter

The news from Minnesota is not pretty. Barbara reports that they are in the midst of receiving 9 inches of snow to top off the 8 that fell on Monday. When the middle of March comes, winter should be polite enough to leave. I have to say that this is one of the times that I am glad to be in the "south" - I've really gone soft on winter!

Thankfulness

I like the middle part of that word the best. "Full". That describes how I feel most of the time ~ not as in "not hungry" but as in "content" with all of the blessings and abundance in my daily life. For my home, family, friends, trees, birds, flowers, freedom of worship, modern conveniences, travel and on and on ~ I thank God! Happy Thanksgiving!

Life goes on and on

I have been a dormant vine on the morninglorees web site. I will perhaps make a new attempt at logging on when I sit at my desk at my work when the computer is ever before me and beckoning me to something or other. When as home I tend to be lost within the throngs of the things most dear. My family, my music and books, my dear little dog, Sadie, and my home that is always in need of something real or perceived.

Carol literally puts me to shame with her faithful entries and marking so many little pleasures come her way. She is a truly a historian of magnificent diligence and creativity. Amazing how she remembers the words to a song eons ago. Bravo. Yet, I will dwell not on the negative and forge ahead with a promise to me and Carol and any dear visitors that I shall indeed give my all to visit our dear garden a bit more often. For I will make time at my desk to think about things that are bright and gay to chase the routine doldrums away.

Return of a friend and a winter bird!

So glad to have Gloria back safe and sound from a visit to Jan's new house in the desert southwest. And happy as well to see for the first time today a little junco ~ they arrive at the end of October (this is about a week earlier than usual)and stay until the end of April. Now it is my turn to fly! I leave for Minnesota in the morning and expect a nice visit with my folks. Then in a week Steve and Delaney will arrive and we will spend a few days with his folks. By the time I get back there will probably be a ton of leaves needing my attention!

"Mosaics Teacher Survives Conversation Club"

I am happy to report that Gloria did indeed survive her guest appearance at an off-site (the Worth's palatial home) meeting of my Conversation Club. Now celebrating our 20th Gala Year, the conversations and conduct of CC members can be intimidating to an outsider who may not be used to the twists and turns or intensity of our discussions. (Not to mention our sudden outbursts of raucous laughter!) Gloria patiently presented a very interesting lesson on several methods and processes of mosaic creations. The pieces she has done are quite lovely, and several among us may now even dare to tackle a project of our own. Many thanks to an informative and gracious hostess!

To lay down my weary thoughts

It has been a whirlwind of eventful activities both near and far that I have again been away from the place that brings me such solace...morningglorees.
The US has been turned upside down with the winds and water of Hurricane Katrina. And now the good folks have turned themselves toward the poor misplaced folks and there is hope that each and every survivor will have a chance to start over. I am busy tonight with laundry and tidying up the kitchen and I am so thankful to have a clean home with water and plumbing and a safe, soft place to lay my head. It is an embaressment of riches that I enjoy. I am grateful.
My day to day life has been full of fun and fury. A mini family reunion over labor day, a few more plants plopped into our dry and dusty soil ( I pray for rain every day) and then oodles of preparations for Sunday school. Now the routine begins.
I was late in filling my hummingbird feeder but I did that as soon as I arrived home today. And much to my amusement a saucy lady came right over as if to say...I have been waiting!!! I am glad she held out for a refill from our feeder.
Well enough said, I am rambling on. Peace to all who visit here.

Best and Worst

This awful thing that has happened to our southern brothers and sisters has brought out the best (Red Cross, First Responders, National Guard etc) and the worst (looting of non-necessities, shooting at helicopters etc). To see on the TV the horrid conditions and suffering is heart breaking. If the call for housing goes out beyond that region, I will be on the list. What dark days these are…

Oh no, it just can't be!

It has just come to my attention that the only department store I shop at with any regularity will soon be closed. L.S. Ayres is owned by Macy's, and all Ayres stores will be thus converted. Since Castleton already has a Macy's, I wonder what will become of the space that Ayres will vacate. I have never been much of a Macy's (previously Lazarus) customer, but I suppose I will have to try. Ayres was always more "higley" - smaller and more friendly...I will miss shopping there!

Cool!

As in not hot! We had a nice big storm last night and this morning the air is about 20 degrees cooler and the humidity barely noticable. The heat of the past 2 weeks has been very wearing - it has been hard to get at even the smallest task due to my depleted energy level! But I must report my flowers, birds, and butterflies continue to inspire and refresh me. The "Fairy Candle" plant from Stream Cliff has put on quite a show - tiny feather-like spikes at the very end of a slender five foot long stem are I guess what gives it it's name. My seed flower garden is wild with color - zinnias, marigold, cleome, forget-me-nots, miniature hollyhocks are making for some lovely indoor bouquets as well! This past week a Red-spotted Purple Butterfly made a return visit to the yard; last year I photographed it on a huge mushroom out in back. The hummingbirds are drinking nectar like crazy, the nuthatches are more plentiful than ever this summer, the house wren is attempting another nest in the pottery house after an egg-snatching thief ruined her first attempt, and the goldfinches are as always the summertime favorites especially with Delaney!

Saddened

Today's bombings in London have left me with a sad and also eerie feeling. Last week we used the subway system in Montreal with no thought of any kind of threat to our safety. In September of 2002 we used the London subway system extensively for over a week, and our starting point each day was the very Kings Cross station line that was one of those bombed today. As tourists, we used public transportation by choice; for the workforce in those cities and many others it is used out of necessity. Try as I may, I cannot begin to understand how the minds of those responsible justify attacks like this...

Bling, Bling

What fun a little sparkle adds to a girl's life. A "ladies night out" in the same old fashion of Tupperware of the past we nibbled and shopped at church last night. Good nibbles as the ladies always do their best to share their culinary skills and shopping well that is a no brainer. The two ladies brought forward their bling bling wares and the sparkle was just too intoixicating and the ladies did buy. Carol and I had a ball laughing and trying on, cajoling, and encouraging to get that one for????? Well the best is Carol found a darling bracelet to work for her lovely trips to Hawaii...tropical colors and tropical icons will make for a lovely statement on her wrist. I am happily sporting my very tres chic Eiffel Tower with sparkles of course!

Nearly Lost...

...was George's Ballroom in New Ulm. A beautiful 32,000 square foot Art Deco ballroom, it saw some of the famous Big Bands play there along with well known Minnesota polka bands such as Whoopie John Wilfahrt, The Jolly Brothers, Chmielewski Brothers, Frankie Yankovic and others. When George died, his heirs closed the doors in 1991 and it sat vacant until it was about to be demolished. Just in the nick of time, a contractor bought it for a song (!) and pretty much single handedly has restored it to it's former glory. This past Sunday 1,200 people attended the first dance to be held there in over 15 years - my folks included. I guess they had several different bands playing at the six hour "Spring Fling". By the sounds of it, George's Ballroom has been "found" again!!

And finally found!!

I am happy to report that after 17 years I have been able to replace the Imperial crystal cake stand that Taylor accidently broke when he was 8 years old! Thanks to online antiques stores and my internet use the past two years, I have been able to do more searching. It finally paid off when I saw a photo of the exact cake stand at the website of A & W Antiques in Lewisville, Texas. Today I received it in the mail and it is as beautiful as I remembered it! Let's see, whose birthday cake will be the first to sit upon it? Steve's I guess!

Don't Fence Me In

Today I have been de-fenced. What a sense of freedom I now have when I look out my kitchen window and no rusty fence offends my eyes! I can cross all boundaries unimpeded, and so can every stray dog, cat, rabbit, raccoon, coyote etc. etc. Anyway, the fence was successfully extracted and I made two new friends whose life story I now know. Mike and Jamie are fantastic workers and have been retained to put in a little stone floor in an area next to our house. This will become my little garden potting space. And I am entertaining all suggestions for the beautification of the fencelines!!

Pope Benedict XVI

A new pope or Papa as the Italians like to say. I am not sure I am warming up to this rather staunch looking deep eyed fellow. I am not seeing the kindness in his face that was so forward in Pope John PaulII. His smile is strained and his gestures robotic, I am not consoled but wary and so I will wait to see what he will feel led to say. I pray that he is of humble heart and will bless the many faithful that are waiting to learn what he is all about.

I have finished redecorating the so called "aqua bathroom"! Finding wallpaper that goes with the aqua ceramic tile edged with black tiles has been quite a hunt. I looked through probably fifty or more wallpaper books before settling on a "grass mat" looking one. It took two days to remove the wallpaper border I had put up seven years ago. Then it took two days to put up this stuff - the most difficult paper I have ever worked with! But it looks grand! Yesterday I put up two new light fixtures and new switchplates. Today I sewed a valance for the window with tropical themed fabric I brought back from Hawaii. Now to put up the also Hawaiian pictures and look for some new towels and our island retreat will be completed.

A way with words

I want to go on record to say how much I enjoy reading Carol's observations of her day to day experiences. I am transported to her trip and finding myself happy in the thoughts expressed. Her looking to the outside in it's resplendent beauty of red birds and snowy branches. Captivating visuals that speak to me. This web log affords a new opportunity to know a friend of many years now. For this I am thankful.

Daily Gift

So this body of mine has reared up and made me realize that good health is a daily gift. May those that suffer suffer less today than they did yesterday.
I worked hard today and accomplished quite a lot. Doing that feels freeing. I will force it again tomorrow and hopefully leave Friday to myself. How much I hope I have left no germs to invade my dear Mom. Ugh!
I am dancing inside as I think that Spring is truly around the corner. I see little shoots poking out and I think hallelujah, the earth rocks! I can hardly wait to go to Florida and bask in the warm sun and then home to the real possibility of longer and warmer days.
With all my groaning I do marvel at the miracle of this body of mine, making up all kinds of gook and gunk only to work it out and through and the peek at feeling better is out there.

Facing the Music

I have run afoul of the webmaster and like a naughty child on the schoolyard, I await my punishment. My daily visit to the internet guestbook of my favorite Scottish singer (Eddi Reader)turned ugly when upon tonight's session a "Virus Threat" warning was displayed before my very eyes. It would have been bad enough for this to happen to me, but the webmaster had already retired for the evening and had to be summoned from a warm bed and the middle of a chapter in a Harry Potter book. He then had to do an emergency intervention Full Virus Scan which turned up a threat by an Adware Minibug Transporter. Even though Mr. Norton took care of things for me, I am sure I have not heard the end of this incident. I don't think that being the nicest American in the world can even save me this time. Sigh....

Super Bowl Improves

I sat and watched the entire Super bowl last evening. I haven't done that in quite sometime. I was pleased to not see any costume malfunctions on any celbes or football players! The game was more interesting than most but still rather ho hum for me. The commercials were ho hum as well but for all the families watching they must have been thrilled to not have to blind fold their little sport fans.

My favorite commercials were the mortgage company ones with the monkeys. Monkeys or shall I say chimpanzees make me laugh.

I agree that Bill Bellichik is a good coach but I certainly have grown tired of his genius status,,,is there such of thing as sport and genius???

All for now from the sports desk.

Emmett

Today I read in the newspaper a huge article about a hair stylist named Emmett Cooper. He is so hugely popular and accomplished that he can charge $175. for a haircut. When we moved here 25 years ago Emmett was my "stylist" at the neighborhood beauty salon where I paid him $12. for a haircut. I do remember that he gave a good cut, but what I remember most is the haircut I had a week after giving birth to Taylor. I was feeling very impressed with myself that I was up and about taking care of my hair. His thought was more like "oh, but of course" as in why let a little thing like having a baby disrupt your hair care regimen! I gather from the article that his attitude hasn't changed!
