Do we we really need more of FEBRUARY?!
I was reading my favorite garden blog "May Dreams" and the author had a point - why have an extra day in February? Why not add it in a more pleasant month, like June or September?!
Here in Indiana there has been endless debate in the legislature about our switch to DST - and none of the politicians has seemed to notice that February is already long enough, even though the extra day only comes once every four years!
Happy Leap Day!

A poem by Delaney
Delaney and her 3rd grade classmates have pen pals this year, and they each had to write a poem to share. This is what she wrote to send to "Roger"!
My Gerbils like to dance.
They always get a chance.
On every single night
they always turn on the light.
My mom always wakes me up.
but all I am is a big lump.
Then I reach up to the sky.
Then I rub my eye.
I think he will like it alot:)

From Blue to White
Home again, in snowy Indiana! The change in temperature from 80 to 10 has been hard, especially on the arthritic wrists who know the difference between cold and warm climates. We had a fantastic time in Hawaii, and enjoyed all of the usual things the island of Oahu has to offer. While the clean white snow is also quite pretty to look out on, the blue skies and warm sandy beaches make it alot more fun to be outside! I am finding it hard to get back to business here ~ there are several projects I want to complete before gardening season begins again and I need to focus on those...

V-day
We had a lovely Valentine's Day in paradise, beginning with a visit to Pearl Harbor and the Arizona Memorial. We have been there many times, and it is as touching an experience now as it was the first time. We walked to the beach in the afternoon and took care of some errands, then took in a birthday party of sorts for our friend Lis from Norway. In the evening we enjoyed a delicious Valentine supper prepared by Chef Steve! Tomorrow is our last full day on the island, and we look forward to our final visit to The Chart House for a sunset dinner.

It's a whale!!
I managed to click two photos of a whale breeching quite close to shore yesterday. We were enjoying a second cup of coffee on the veranda of the Moana Surfrider and staring out on the water when the ocean giant leapt up before our very eyes - I can only imagine what the surfers that were even closer must have felt!
Today it's the North Shore and the giant waves that we will view!

The Sunday Game
Yesterday we went to Aloha Stadium to watch the Pro Bowl. It was quite the event - football players from most of the teams were there, NFL and AFL, wearing red or blue uniforms but with their own team helmets. I haven't been to any pro games for years, so this was a fun experience and even more special due to the location! Lots of pageantry pre-game including a low fly-over by 3 huge black military helicopters and a halftime show with a band, fireworks, flags and more. Throughout the game there were mini-stages with performers such as hula dancers and fire dancers. And all of this was made perfect by the warm sun and balmy breezes of the island. The day ended with a trip across the street with the folks to the Chart House for some revitilization!

Warm Welcome
After a one day delay due to fog in Indianapolis, we are here in "heaven on earth"! Waikiki is as warm and wonderful as ever - the ocean, the flowers and trees, the food - everything is perfect. We are enjoying time with Steve's folks with lots of conversation, delicious meals, jigsaw puzzles, Hawaii Five-0 and much more. It is easy to understand what has brought them back here to spend the Minnesota cold months for so many years. Today we are being treated to lunch at the Royal Hawaiian by the folks. We will be joined by their friends from Norway and Canada. That hotel (the "Pink Hotel") and the Moana Surfrider are next to each other on Waikiki - stunning in every way, very old and very elegant. The next big event will be on Sunday when we attend the Pro Bowl!
