And a Happy Birthday to...
Delaney Marie who turns 9 years old today! Her "last single digit year" she reminded me when we called to wish her a happy bday this afternoon.

Leaves fall with a vengeance
After thinking that the trees would never turn color and drop their leaves this fall, a few freezing nights and a couple of rains and windy days did the trick. Taylor has been busy mulching them with the mower every few days, so there haven't been too many for the "Leaf it at the Curb" guys to pick up. Sort of nice - the city picks them up and then composts them for use by any citizen willing to come and get them next spring. We did manage to rake a few big "jumping piles" for the girls. What a blast that always is and what wonderful memories it brings back!

Exercise
After a prolonged absence due to travel, houseguests, and a myriad of other goings on etc, I have finally gone back to Curves this morning. It felt good to get back on the exercise equipment!
I have found myself lately flying hither thither and yon and have let all manner of things I like to do or am responsible for at home go undone. So it's time to get back to the basics here in light of the fact that up next will be all of the holiday hoopla!

For my friend Candy, at her death
Assurance
It sometimes happens that two friends will meet,
And with a smile and touch of hands again
Go on their way along the noisy street.
Each is so sure of all the friendship sweet,
The loving silence gives no thought of pain.
And so I think those friends whom we call dead
Are with us. It may be some quiet hour,
Or time of busy work for hand and head,
Their love fills all the heart that missed them so.
They bring a sweet assurance of the life
Serene above the worry that we know,
And we are braver for the comfort brought.
Why should we grieve because they do not speak
Our words that lie so far below their thought?

Where are they?
The juncos that is!! They have usually made their appearance for the winter by now. I checked my bird journal, and the latest arrival I found for them was November 1. I wonder if their lateness is due to this prolonged autumn we are experiencing. I saw them when we were in Minnesota a month ago, so I suppose they will soon make their way south. Hope so, they are one of my most favorite winter birds.
