North Shore

This morning we are driving up through the middle of the island, passing the pineapple fields and across the mountains and coffee farms to the North Shore. It is then that you get the first glimpse of the Pacific on that side of the island. Spectacular!

We usually stop at the little town of Haliewa, the sort of gateway to surf-dom I guess! It is home to Matsumoto's Grocery, the original Hawaiian shave-ice can still be had there. Then it is a beautiful drive along the Banzai Pipeline - Waimea Bay, Sunset Beach etc. and our favorite one - Ehukai Beach. That is where we park, then walk down the wide beach in the deep sand to watch the gigantic surf and the ladies and gentlemen surfers.

Then we continue on around the east side of the island and eventually back to Hononulu. All for now, gotta go!

Aloha

Happy to report that it is still warm and beautiful here. I see that the temperature in Indy is wonderful today too!!

Walked along Waikiki beach yesterday and rested awhile sitting on the Banyan Veranda at the Moana Surfider, the elegant and oldest hotel (1900 I think) on the beach.

Today we will take Liz to her hair appointment, and afterward to do some shopping before we meet Marshall for lunch.

Winter Wrap-up

February flew by and here it is March, and almost spring. Noticed more yellow on several goldfinches this morning, and at church on Sunday I heard the red-winged blackbirds singing so nature is ready to move on also. Enjoyed my week in Minnesota last month and now I'm ready to head to the beach on Sunday!

Thanks to my decorating consultant (gloree) for the good outcome of re-papering and painting the front hallway and the kitchen! I ended up doing the work and I am happy to see how nice it looks. The "Potter's Bench" print is perfect on the kitchen wall, although it fills me with a longing to go visit England's Lake District once again!
