Hooray it has been a fun day...so far
I awoke to the patter of rain on my skylight and thought to myself...no morning walk with Sadie girl so I will make the most of my morning and get a move on. I called Carol and asked if I could stop by and do a little redesign on her living room. Soemthing I have been pondering ever since she inheirited several Hatfield furnishings. We had a blast moving her lovely pieces here and there...well I should speak for myself and say I had a ball...Carol ever patient and thoughtful participated with a smile on her face! I was excited and pleased with the results. I think it looks just dandy and fine. Well Carol will live with it and surely collect a few votes from other lookers so time will tell if what we did today will be there tomorrow! It was fun, fun, fun...thanks Carol for the sunshine in the gloomy old day.
Happy Halloween to all the goblins and ghouls.

Mary Oliver
Hearing Mary Oliver read her own poetry last night at Clowes Hall was fantastic. She is a small, unassuming older lady who seems rather surprised by her success. She has published numerous volumes of poetry, won the Pulitzer Prize and traveled the world presenting her works. While most of her poems are written about the natural world, one that she read last night was not. It started out being about her little dog Percy and ended up stating a very strong political view in a very amusing way! At any rate, Marina, Sharon and I thought she was wonderful!

A Good Hug
I have to admit I had almost forgotton this little haven existed. I am not sure what happened that it had slipped into the recesses of my mind but just the other day it came to me. I had a place to go to where I can feel as if I am enveloped in a warm, strong hug! I traveled there quickly to find so many lovely rememberings by Carol. Her thoughts, trips, critiques, compliments, and her visitors. Each one was enjoyable to read and I realized how much I had missed twirling the morning glory vine around my brain. So for today I visit and hope that perhaps I will not fade into the shadows but rather find a thought or two to share.
I am recovering or recuperating from a sinus infection or something bacterial that has a side note of effecting my airways. I feel draggy and lackluster. This has been my year of body illnesses, I know there must be something I am to learn in all of this. I am still a bit foggy as to what it might be. The obvious is always the buzz word of today...Stress but somehow I think what i am to learn is not so much about me. Perhaps I am in need of gaining some heightened sensitivity toward others that just do not feel well at all. I am kind of a buck it up person and maybe on some level that is just plain mean? Anyway I am taking time to rest and I am marveling at how easy I fall asleep throughout the day. Am I really that behind in sleep.
The weather of today is the grandest kind. Blue skies that pierce the soul with depth of color. Trees that are turning colors almost from blink to blink with a brilliance that sucks the breath out of my lungs and the air, oh the air is so crisp that I almost want to take a bite out of it. Swallow it and keep it in me. I love fall so much and yet it is the month that marks the release of some dear ones in my life. My daddy left me for broader skies in October 12 years ago, oh my God that stings so much and it still is just awful to say out loud. Papa George died in October just 4 years ago and it seems longer, how strange. And just a few weeks ago my Aunt Ruth went on ahead of my mom and leaves a hole back at home. They were all so dear on this earth, how lucky I am to have had them in my heart. I am relieved that the Morning Glory vine has not succumbed to the cold nights and lives on for me (for us)to visit.
Thank you Carol for your faithfulness, it is a remarkable trait and virtue.

Still humming
We had hummingbirds at their feeder on Saturday September 30 which is as late in the fall as we have ever seen them. I wonder if it predicts anything about the coming winter - like the color of the woolly caterpillar, dark for harsh or light for mild winter! The longer the hummers stay, the shorter the winter maybe? That would be just fine with me. Snow is great as long as it knows when to leave!!

Company at Last!!
My younger sister and her husband left last Thursday morning after a two day visit with us. They had been to a wedding in Memphis and it worked out perfect to stop here en route back to Minnesota. We had ever so much fun!
Steve took Tuesday off and we all went downtown. Drove to Lilly first, then went to the mall and later walked around past the the IRT, Circle Theatre etc. Saw several of the new Julian Opie “art pieces” around town. We went to Mass Ave to have lunch at Hoaglin’s, and walked around that area before continuing our tour to Victory Field, Conseco Fieldhouse, the zoo and gardens, Eiteljorg, state capitol, state museum, history center etc etc etc. They were quite impressed with the way so many fine places are in such close proximity. Then it was time to head up to Fishers and visit with Melissa and the girls. Delaney and Ella came back here to spend a little more time with Aunt Barbara and Uncle Doug before I took them home again.
On Wednesday Barbara and I went to IMA, mainly to walk the gardens. Stunning as ever. We ate a little lunch on the grounds, bought a couple of things at the greenhouse and enjoyed the drive through the “old neighborhood” where I pointed out my Conversation Club friend's houses as well as our house on Delbrook Drive. Back up at this end of town we went to the 25 Homestore which Barbara enjoyed and then headed home for a glass of wine. In the evening the four of us went to eat at Claddagh. Took the men home and Barbara and I went to walk off dinner at the Fashion Mall. They left early Thursday morning, around 7 and made it home around 5 pm to the little town they live in outside of Rochester, Minnesota.
I am so thankful for their visit!
