Grand Good Wishes
Happy Birthday to you Gloria!
“The Road goes ever on and on down from the door where it began. Now far ahead the Road has gone, and I must follow, if I can, pursuing it with eager feet, until it joins some larger way where many paths and errands meet. And whither then? I cannot say.”
~Bilbo Baggins~
Enjoy your birthday dear friend!!

Let the gardening begin!
I am so excited I can hardly stand it. On Friday in honor of her most welcome birthday, Gloria and I are making our first plant buying trip of the season. The Goodwill Greenhouse has the best pansies in town, and we are going to load up. Snow or no, it’s time to get the ball rolling.

No, no, no it just can't be!
I am wiping that smug look off my face. Yes, I do know about the gobs of snow forecast for us here tomorrow. Apparently Minnesotans have sent it off in a huff and in utter confusion, Winter has looked south for it's next victim. Yesterday we were outside starting some work in the yard and garden beds, tomorrow it's back to the snow shovel. Oh well, maybe the school kids will have a snow day at least!

Soft on Winter
The news from Minnesota is not pretty. Barbara reports that they are in the midst of receiving 9 inches of snow to top off the 8 that fell on Monday. When the middle of March comes, winter should be polite enough to leave. I have to say that this is one of the times that I am glad to be in the "south" - I've really gone soft on winter!

Home again and I say Hurrah
Steve and I had the pleasure of scooting to Ft. Lauderdale for a few days. Our first days were a mini reunion with his dear sister, Karen and his lovely mother, Elaine. We chatted and laughed and reminisced all the while. The moments were sweet. They departed to their homes and Steve and I whiled away the hours of several more days with long strolls, beach bumming, and porch sitting. We are aghast at the amount of time there is in a day to waste away lavishly if one so desires. How much I wish there was more time to waste!!!!
Now we are home and the life of the day takes over full speed, but I say in honesty that I rejoice in being home. It is grand and gay and the absolutely right place to spend my time.

Anne as Jane?
Have just finished reading the monthly Jane Austen newsletter. They have finally run out of fresh ways to make films from her novels and have turned to making a movie about herself instead. I am aghast. They have cast Anne Hathaway as Jane Austen, and I just can't buy it. Princess Diaries maybe, but as Jane? Never.

What a difference a week makes
Took a stroll around our yard yesterday in the sunshine and 70 degree weather. In just a week alot has happened ~ crocus and miniature daffodils are blooming, tulips are up 6-8 inches, peonies, bleeding hearts, yarrow, sedum and other perennials have pushed up quite a ways through the earth, and rose stems have little growths. Not to be outdone, the goldfinches are showing some brilliant yellow feathers already! Time to buy pansies and johnny jump-ups and let the gardening season begin!!

Where have all the flowers gone?
Always a shock to the system to see the overall "brown-ness" of our winter landscape as the plane descends towards home after two weeks in the tropical colors of Oahu. The lushness and warmth are hard to leave behind, but it is of some comfort to know that within the month, things will begin to green up around here. I can see some tulips and hyacinths popping up above bulbs already!
