Fine Feathered Frenzy!
It has been a good day down on the farm for birdwatching! First I spotted a bluebird out the front window during my ladies devotion group. I interrupted everything to jump up and go for the camera while Gloria jumped up just as fast to see the lovely blue friend. Sharon was a little shocked at our excitement I think, but when it comes to a bird sighting there is no such thing as holding back! Later on I saw a yellow bellied sapsucker on the redbud tree and then two chickadees busy going in and out of the clay bird house Jan gave me. Nest building is afoot! To top it off, there were two goldfinches in nearly perfect summer yellow feathers and a cinnamon colored Carolina Wren out in back. Simple pleasures...

Oh me oh my
Happy Spring to all. I Am back on the web page as the trusty Mad Hatter has once again remembered who I am. Thank goodness for good friends.
A day looking rather gloomy again but after a nice brisk walk with Sadie girl I could feel warmth in the air. Rejoice rejoice in the warmer air. I almost as if I am taken to walking on air as I observe the daffodils and other early spring flowers forcing their way up.
It is good to be back inside morninglorees, a safe happy place where two good friends share their lives.

St. Patrick's Day Blizzard plus one 2005
They are having a blizzard up in Minnesota right now. I talked to Barbara in Byron and schools there and all across southern Minnesota were closed due to the 15 inches of snow still coming down. It brought to mind the 1965 St. Patrick's Day Blizzard in Minnesota. I was in the 8th grade I guess and I still remember that storm dropping around 20 " of snow to add to at least that much already on the ground. That was the winter that lasted well into April with snow still in places on May Day. Here in Indianapolis we have enjoyed 60 degrees and sunshine the past few days and I welcome that!

"DIY"
I have finished redecorating the so called "aqua bathroom"! Finding wallpaper that goes with the aqua ceramic tile edged with black tiles has been quite a hunt. I looked through probably fifty or more wallpaper books before settling on a "grass mat" looking one. It took two days to remove the wallpaper border I had put up seven years ago. Then it took two days to put up this stuff - the most difficult paper I have ever worked with! But it looks grand! Yesterday I put up two new light fixtures and new switchplates. Today I sewed a valance for the window with tropical themed fabric I brought back from Hawaii. Now to put up the also Hawaiian pictures and look for some new towels and our island retreat will be completed.

First Robin
Yesterday I saw the first robin of spring! It seemes like in the last few years I would see robins all through the winter, but not so this time. I have to think this fellow just returned, like me, from a warmer and sunnier clime! And today over at church Delaney and I heard a red-winged blackbird sing and then followed his song to where we could see him way up high in a tree. So that makes two harbingers of spring!! Yea!

Beach Books
If you are a Larry McMurtry fan (Lonesome Dove, Last Picture Show etc.) you will enjoy his latest effort. He has written a series of four books called "The Berrybender Narratives" and I read all but the last one while in Hawaii thanks to my father-in-law! Set in the American West of the 1830's, it is the story of a wealthy English family and the adventures and tragedies they encounter as they journey westward with a colorful cast of characters both fictional and real! The latter including Kit Carson, Jim Bridger, Toussaint and Pomp Charbonneau (Sacajawea's husband and son), and the painter George Catlin! The books are fast paced, and, as Steve's dad put it "earthy"! And the chapters about the French and English newsmen traveling together are written I think rather tongue in cheek. Their humorous debate about not being able to eat meals properly after their guide throws out all of the linen napkins brings to mind some of the stereotypes that still exist about our European friends! I am looking forward to the conclusion of the Berrybender's adventures when I get ahold of the fourth book!
